RTBU statement on the NSW Government withdrawing its 424 application
22 January 2025
Attributable to Toby Warnes, Secretary of the Rail, Tram and Bus Union (RTBU) NSW:
The NSW Government’s decision to drop its 424 application in the Fair Work Commission is a welcome result for rail workers.
Yet, it’s disappointing that the NSW Government is insisting on playing political games and continuing to drag this dispute through the courts rather than sitting down and negotiating properly. We remain hopeful that common-sense will prevail at soon and we’ll be able to sit down and reach a fair agreement.
This should be about reaching a fair deal quickly, not an exercise in political posturing. The people of NSW deserve better from our government.
The RTBU remains focus on achieving an outcome that provides workers and commuters with the fair deal they deserve.
The union’s position on the safety clause remains the same. Safety is always our number one concern, and we will never allow a government to try and take away critical safety clauses. The fact that they want to is deeply concerning for workers, as it should be for every commuter.
