Sydney and NSW Trains – Meeting #6

Dear Members,

We continued bargaining today at Trades Hall. The day started with some terse words regarding management’s conduct in opposing our protected action ballot (PABO). Our delegates made it very clear how affronted they were by the attempt to deny us our rights to democratically choose whether we want to take industrial action in support of our claims.

Some questions remain unanswered, including who was behind the decision to oppose our PABO and who provided the instructions to do it in the way they did.

One delegate pointed out that it was almost three years ago to the day that exactly the same thing happened during last bargaining round. Doing the same thing twice and expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity.

The rest of the day was taken up continuing to work through our log of claims. Of note, we discussed:

  1. Improving the Fair Decision Framework
  2. Introducing formal and recognised qualifications for classifications across the organisation
  3. Fixing journey cover insurance and having the employer pay
  4. Restricting CCTV to stop its use against members
  5. Strengthening the critical incident leave clause
  6. Ensuring that all uniforms and PPE are Australian made by ethical suppliers

We are still waiting for Deputy President Cross of the Fair Work Commission to finalise his decision so our PABO can commence. Hopefully we’ll have more news on that tomorrow.
