Result of the s.425 application to suspend industrial action
This afternoon, the Fair Work Commission granted a suspension of our industrial action until 1 July 2025 – nominally, to enable the parties to finalise negotiations.
This means all actions – including campaign actions such as our uniform action – are off for this period.
Our fear is that the Government has no intention to finalise this bargain, and the lack of industrial action, or the threat of it, will mean it will continue to sit on its hands rather than reach agreement with its rail workforce.
It must also be said that this move by the NSW Government sets a terrible precedent.
This has set an industrial agenda for aggressive employers, which should be a serious concern not just for us, but for workers everywhere.
It’s disappointing that this has occurred, and like you, we are hurting. But importantly, once again, this means we are still in the game and bargaining is ongoing, and we can continue to campaign for the fair pay and conditions that we all know we deserve.
Stay tuned for further updates on next steps.
