Reminder: don’t believe everything you read in the media

3 December 2024

Dear Members,

There have been a number of claims in the media over the course of the last couple of days about our industrial action and enterprise agreement negotiation.

Remember, we should always take media reports with a significant grain of salt. The best sources of information are our communications directly to you, the fightingforourfuture.com.au website, and your Enterprise Agreement delegates.

To allow the government the best possible chance to arrive at an acceptable EA offer, and to ensure we complete the full two weeks of uninterrupted bargaining promised at the end of November, we paused the 24-hour train industrial action that was scheduled to commence on the evenings of both Thursday, 28 November and 5 December.

Tomorrow, (assuming the Government’s position on the EA and our wages doesn’t miraculously improve) our EA delegates will meet to discuss the future of the 24-hour trains action and other potential escalations in industrial action that will continue to put pressure on them to come to the table with a better offer.

At this stage, the next escalation of our industrial action is the reinstatement of the Train Crew kilometres limit on Monday 9 December. As the kilometre limit has continued to tick down during this bargaining period, this means we will start with suburban drivers limited to 167km, suburban guards limited to 200km, and Intercity crew limited to 272km.

We will send out further comms first thing Monday advising of the outcome of our intensive bargaining process, including the outcome of the engagement with Treasury and the Premier’s Department, our response, and any resulting escalation of industrial action.

In unity,

RTBU NSW
