Sydney Trains and NSW Trains Bargaining – Meeting #3

2 July 2024

Dear Members,

This morning the Transport Secretary attended our second round of bargaining meetings. The ask on him was to come to the table and clearly explain what the NSW Government has authorised the rail entities to bargain for, and to provide a response to our threshold claim for a single interest employment agreement (Multi Enterprise Agreement).

Unfortunately, the Transport Secretary was unable to provide any reassurances beyond broad assertions that this bargaining round will be better, and Transport will be more transparent. However, we remain none the wiser on who is providing the opposition to our claim for a Multi Enterprise Agreement – a matter that could use some transparency.

To be clear, the reason we want a Multi Enterprise Agreement is because it provides us with protection against privatisation, enables us to keep one agreement across the rail entities, and provides job and pay security for all members.

Most of the day today centred around the Multi Enterprise Agreement.

Sydney Trains and NSW Trains then put forward their claims for the enterprise agreement. They are:

Affecting Train Crew:

  1. Asset association
  2. Task assigner
  3. Introduce electronic transpositions (also affects Stations)
  4. Digital timesheets
  5. Electronic Safety Critical Documents
  6. “Modernisation” of train preparation

Affecting everyone:

  1. Improving flexibility arrangements in clause 44
  2. Broaden the terms of clause 12 for all functional areas (EMB focus)

Management has said that they will provide more details in due course, and we’ll update members as soon as we can.

Tomorrow, we are holding a BBQ at Central Station at old TCAC between 1000hrs and 1500hrs. Come down and have a have something to eat and VOTE YES in our majority support vote.
