20 November 2024

The Rail, Tram and Bus Union NSW will provide an update on the latest in the rail dispute today at 12.30pm.

MEDIA ALERT

WHEN: 12.30pm TODAY, Wednesday 20 November

WHERE: Martin Place Railway Station concourse, near exit 5
WHO: Toby Warnes, Secretary of the RTBU NSW

RTBU NSW Secretary Toby Warnes said it is disappointing that the NSW Government seems intent on continuing to push ahead with its plans to shut down the rail network this weekend.

“This is a shocking display of incompetence from the NSW Government,” Mr Warnes said.

“This weekend would have been the perfect time to run 24-hour public transport, but rather than deliver services for the people of NSW, the NSW Government is attempting to shut everything down.

“Rail workers have everything possible to keep services running – that’s why we introduced the novel 24-hour transport action. We don’t want to impact commuters, but it seems the government does.”

Mr Warnes also clarified that the RTBU action relating to 24-hour running of our trains – which were notified a number of weeks ago – have always related to rail operations from Friday morning. They would never have impacted services running on Thursday.

“This just shows what a shambles this situation is. It’s been very clear for weeks that our actions were to start after the last train service on Friday morning, if the additional services didn’t run.

“The RTBU hasn’t moved our actions at all – all that has happened is that the government has worked out that it didn’t read the notice properly. In a situation as serious as this, that is truly shocking.”
